Freed Slaves
August 14, 2017
I am a child born by post-colonisation,
All they make me understand was that,
“Colonisation made me a slave”
But now, I am a freed slave.
I no longer have to do what the white man says,
“Les hommes blancs” no longer have their grip over me.
But their aroma is still in the air,
Their deeds are still our own deed,
I am no longer a child to servitude,
My mother is no longer forced to the sugar cane plantation.
But the present plantation, what mentality runs it?
We are the freed slaves.
